The Boathouse

A waterfront restaurant where the brief was a room that had plainly been standing for decades, and the approval process was the most demanding in the industry.

Why a procurement department should care

Any vendor can say they work in hospitality. Very few have delivered inside a Disney property, and the difference is not craftsmanship. It is process.

Work on that property passes a landlord design review with its own criteria for finishes, materials and signage. Installation happens in restricted windows, around guests and around other trades. Vendors clear compliance and insurance conditions before anything crosses the property line. None of it is negotiable, and none of it forgives a shop that improvises.

A chain's procurement department asks the same questions in a smaller font. Once a vendor has satisfied the hardest version, the rest is paperwork.

What it proved

  • Cleared a landlord design review on finishes, materials and signage
  • Installed inside restricted work windows on an operating property
  • Met vendor compliance and insurance conditions before mobilizing
  • Coordinated with the architect and general contractor, not around them
  • Delivered material that reads as original to the building

One room on the hardest property in the country is the proof. The program is how it repeats.
